Edgar Springs Woman Wins $10,000 Prize

Story Photo A stop to a Salem convenience store led to a lucrative day for one Edgar Springs woman on Feb. 2.  Mary Welch, 52, purchased a Missouri Lottery "Lifetime Riches" Scratchers ticket from Philmart, 500 S. Main in Salem, and discovered she was $10,000 richer moments later.

"I only buy ’Lifetime Riches’ tickets, but I’ve never won a big prize before," said Welch.  "I scratched the ticket at the counter in the store, and when I saw that I won, I didn’t believe it.  I asked the clerk if the ticket was right."

As fate would have it, Welch, a first-time Lottery winner, was holding a winning ticket.

"I said to the clerk, ’No, I didn’t really win,’ but she scanned it (ticket) for me and told me that I really did win," revealed Welch.

Welch, a beauty salon owner, said she was "in shock" by the win, and didn’t have any concrete plans for the prize money.

However, Welch’s mother, Joyce, noted that they were on their way to "go shopping" after they left the Lottery office.

"Well, we’re going shopping, but we don’t have any plans for anything in particular to buy," explained Welch.

"Lifetime Riches," a $10 game that offers a top prize of $50,000 a year for life, officially began on April 22, 2006.  To date, three top prizes remain in the game.
