The Missouri Lottery has announced the final field of five lucky players to win the grand prize in the Lottery’s “Holiday in Hawaii” promotion. The players were each drawn in the third of three promotion drawings to win a trip for four to Hawaii – along with $2,000 in spending money.
Barbara Jung of Ballwin, Nettie McCade of Forest City, Brian Mittrucker of St. Peters, Dan Suntrup of St. Louis and Jimmy Williams of Springfield were each selected as grand-prize winners in the “second-chance” promotion.
For McCade, news of her big win came from her daughter, who had been keeping a close eye on the Missouri Lottery Web site for winner announcements. She spotted her mother’s name in the Grand Prize section and couldn’t wait to share the good news.
“She yelled, ‘Mom, you’ve got to come see this!’”
“You’re pulling my leg,” McCade responded and then went to check out the Web site for herself. Though disbelief was a fleeting first reaction, McCade admits that she had a good feeling about this prize.
“I have a feeling I have won that trip,” she recalled sharing with friends and family after she received initial notification that her ticket was one of 70 drawn in the last drawing, meaning that the least she could walk away with was $300 in Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets.
To win, “Holiday in Hawaii” players submitted at least $10 worth of current non-winning holiday-themed Scratchers tickets. In addition to the five grand prizes given away at each drawing, 15 first-place winners won shopping sprees worth $1,000 and 50 second-place winners received $300 worth of Scratchers tickets.
