Bucklin Woman Wins $62,169 Keno Prize

Story Photo A digital press operator from Bucklin is planning to "build a nest egg" with her recent windfall.  Melanie Griffin, 48, has been playing Club Keno for years but recently found herself holding a ticket worth $62,169 at Eagles Lodge, 301 N. Chestnut St. in Marceline on Jan. 2.

"I looked up and saw the numbers on the board and couldn’t believe it," explained Griffin.  "I kept checking the ticket over and over again.  I probably checked it at least 10 times."

According to Griffin, she stood in "shock" for several minutes after learning she had won.

"I just stood there staring at the ticket," revealed Griffin.  "My husband asked me if I wanted to go home and put the ticket in a safe place, so we left."

Griffin is not new to winning the Lottery, but she noted that she didn’t win nearly as much the first time around.

"I won $1,300 playing Keno a few years ago, so this win is more exciting!" exclaimed Griffin.

When asked about plans for the prize money, Griffin said that she was looking forward to getting out of debt and putting money into her savings account.

To play Club Keno, players can choose how many different numbers (also called "spots") they want to play from 1 to 10.  Twenty numbers from a field of 1-80 are chosen in a computerized random Club Keno drawing held every five minutes.
