Vienna Woman Celebrates $25,000 Lottery Win

For Sandra Sutton, 65, of Vienna, claiming a winning $25,000 Scratchers ticket was the perfect way to kick off this year’s holiday celebrations.  It was also an early – and much welcomed - birthday surprise for the grandmother of seven, who will celebrate her 66th birthday on Dec. 20.

A worker in the dietary area of Maries Manor Health Care & Rehabilitation Center in Vienna, Sutton laughed as she recalled her walk back into the store after scratching her ticket to verify that she had actually won.

“I didn’t believe my eyes,” she said.  “I wanted to know, did they see what I see?”

She was assured that the Missouri Lottery “Merry Money” Scratchers ticket she held in her hands was indeed a top prize winner.

“They said I was as a white as a sheet,” she shared.

Helping out family and possibly buying a new car were the first ideas that sprung to mind as she began thinking about what to do with her earnings.  She also seized the opportunity, once she knew all of her responsibilities were covered, to take two weeks off work to spend time with family and friends.

According to Sutton, she typically purchases about four Scratchers tickets a week.

“I’ve gotta have the urge for the others,” she said, referring to her occasional purchase of Powerball and Lotto tickets.  “But I might buy more now!” she added with a smile.

Sutton purchased her winning Scratchers ticket on Dec. 11 at Vienna Quick Spot, 104 Highway 42 in Vienna.

Merry Money,” a $2 game with a top prize of $25,000, officially began Oct. 25.
