Hermitage Players Group Named Team of the Month

Congratulations to the "King and Queens" of Hermitage!  The group was recognized as the Lottery Team of the Month for October as part of the Missouri Lottery’s 2008 Lottery Captains promotion.  The promotion awards a Lottery group with prizes and a feature at Molottery.com each month during the calendar year.

This group of 11 co-workers and friends have been playing the Lottery together for more than four years.  Most of them work together at Ortho-Care in Hermitage, but the group also includes the wife of a co-worker, a former employee and their UPS delivery man.

"Bill is kind of the instigator," said Co-captain Debra Wetzel.  "He is one lucky guy.  He wins on Scratchers all the time.  Bill wanted to start playing Powerball, and we figured our odds would be better if we all played together."

The "King and Queens" consists of Co-captains Jeannie Bell of Hermitage and Debra Wetzel of Wheatland; the "King," Bill Crossland of Richmond; Ruby Lyon, Ellen Sparks and Mary Ping, all of Wheatland; Vicki Holt, Sue Long, Cathy Maberry and Vicki Simmons, all of Hermitage; and Tammy Thompson of Preston.

Everyone in the group contributes $5 per week, which Bell and Wetzel then use to purchase Powerball tickets for both weekly drawings.  The tickets are a mix of selected numbers and Quick Picks.  The group recently added one Show Me Cash ticket to their stable, buying one multi-draw Quick Pick for every drawing during the week.  They occasionally win enough to pay for their tickets and plan to split any winnings over $100 equally between the group.  But that doesn’t mean they have all the details worked out if they were to hit the big one.

"We haven’t gotten past getting a limousine to go claim the ticket," said Wetzel.

"Most of us would probably retire," added Bell.  "We might not quit playing the Lottery, but we’d definitely quit working, I think."

That scenario could spell trouble for their workplace.  All but four employees are part of the players group.

"We told them they would have many choices of jobs when we win," laughed Bell.
