Mexico Woman Uncovers $100,000 Lottery Prize
A Mexico woman couldn’t believe her eyes when she uncovered the $100,000 top prize on a Missouri Lottery “Casino Showdown” Scratchers ticket on Oct. 7. Shellee Stephens, 42, of Mexico purchased the winning ticket from Casey’s, 615 Hendricks Drive in Mexico.
“I scratched the ticket in my car and saw all of these zeros,” said Stephens. “I ran back into the store and asked the clerk to check the ticket for me, because I wanted to make sure what I was seeing was real.”
Stephens didn’t receive confirmation on the amount of the win from the clerk, but she was told that she had won a large enough prize that she would need to take her ticket to a Lottery office to receive the prize money.
“I raced home and called my husband and told him to get home right away,” said Stephens.
Stephen’s husband, Monte, knew what he needed to do when he heard his wife’s request.
“My wife and I have a rule that if we call the other and tell them to get home, we aren’t supposed to ask questions over the phone,” said (Monte) Stephens. “We’re just supposed to get home as quick as we can.”
Stephen’s husband was pleasantly surprised when he heard the good news from his wife when he returned home.
“We have two grandsons on the way, so we already feel blessed,” said (Monte) Stephens. “This win will help out tremendously with the new arrivals.”
“Casino Showdown,” a $5 dollar game, officially began on June 14.
