Canton Man Wins $5,000 Scratchers Prize

Story Photo audio icon When Gerald Stump of Canton went to purchase some chicken for dinner on Aug. 5, he never would have imagined that the trip would pay off in something other than a full belly.  But when Stump decided to cash in a winning "Mega Fortune" Scratchers ticket and purchase a "$100,000 Blackjack" Scratchers ticket, he fattened his wallet with a $5,000 prize.
"I got back home, we ate supper and I scratched the tickets off," said Stump.  "I looked at the first one and said, ’that ain’t right.’  I thought it was a bogus ticket.  I took it back to County Market and found out it was for real."
Stump, 56, purchased his chicken and tickets at County Market, 1805 Elm in Canton.  The retired military man says he prefers the "Jumbo Bucks" and "Mega Fortune" games, but because the store was out of the "Jumbo Bucks" tickets, he ended up with the winning "$100,000 Blackjack" ticket instead.
As far as plans for the money, Stump said he would pay off some bills and "take my wife out for a good weekend."
"$100,000 Blackjack" is a $5 game with a top prize of $100,000.  The game officially began on Dec. 15, 2007, and has several top prizes remaining.
