Smithton Couple Wins "5X the Money"

Story Photo audio icon Larry Walter was feeling lucky, so he bought one more ticket and won $25,000.  Walter, 57, stopped for his bi-weekly purchase of Lotto, Powerball and Pick 3 tickets and decided to purchase two "4 Million Dollar Cash Bonanza" Scratchers tickets.  He scratched the tickets at Merten’s Mini-Mart, 30870 Highway W in Sedalia, and discovered a $1,000 prize.  Walter called his wife, Antonia, to inform her of the win and she suggested that he buy one more ticket.

"I let the wife know," said Walter.  "She said ’well, buy another.’  I thought OK, we’ll see what this other one is, and so I picked a $2 ticket.  But after I scratched it all off, I had to have someone else really look at it and tell me, ’Hey, this is really real.’ "

The Walters, who live in Smithton and work in Sedalia, plan to bank the $25,000 windfall from the "5X the Money" Scratchers ticket and use the $1,000 prize to have a little fun.  Since they live close to the site of the Missouri Staate Fair, the Walters will be making their annual visit to the fair in the next few weeks.

"4 Million Dollar Cash Bonanza" is a $20 game that features a top prize of $4 million and a second prize of $1 million.  "5X the Money" is a $2 game with a top prize of $25,000.
