AGA Honors Long with First Regional Coordinator Award
The Association of Government Accountants (AGA), based in Alexandria, Va., has selected Cathy Long to receive AGA’s first Regional Coordinator Award. Long, one of only five people in the U.S. to receive this award, is the accounting manager for the Missouri Lottery. She is also the Mid-Western Regional Coordinator for Chapter Development and Assistance and a member of AGA’s Mid-Missouri Chapter.
With the Regional Coordinator Award, AGA is honoring Long for dedicating significant time and resources to improving chapter operations. She promotes AGA’s goals and initiatives and helps chapters maximize their involvement with AGA programs. In the past year, the St. Louis Chapter has gone from being inactive to a chapter than has implemented meetings and audio conferences, published two newsletters and established a Web presence. Long will be honored at AGA’s Annual Professional Development Conference and Exposition.
The AGA praised Long for holding a training session to announce the chapter revitalization, surveying the membership to identify interest in programs, activities, and participation, and encouraging individuals to participate in the chapter. Long has focused on sponsorship opportunities and coordinated and conducted conference calls with local regional and national AGA coordinators. She participated in AGA’s 2007 Sectional Leadership Meeting, assisting in the roundtable discussion that helped new chapter officers understand their roles.
