Eldon Woman's Routine Leads to $20,000

At the end of every work week, Eldon resident Joanie Lodge fills up her car with gas and buys about $20 worth of Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets from the convenience store where she works near Lake of the Ozarks. Saturday, April 26, was no exception as Lodge bought tickets at Kaiser Kountry Kash & Karry on Highway 42 in Kaiser. Lodge, 25, prefers to play the tickets that are part of the "Muscle Up" Scratchers second-chance promotion, because she and her husband, Justin, submit the non-winning tickets in hopes of winning the top prize - a Dodge® Viper® SRT10 Coupe or the cash equivalent. While scratching the tickets at her home, Lodge was surprised and excited to learn that they had instantly won the $20,000 top prize on the "Winning Fever" Scratchers ticket.

"I went home and scratched the ticket; then I nearly fainted," said Lodge. "The fourth or fifth one in was $10,000, and it had the fever, so it was $20,000. I was amazed."

Lodge, who has had some luck with second-chance promotions in the past, does all her scratching at home because "it’s unlucky to scratch the tickets at the gas station." During last year’s "Happy Days of Summer" promotion, Justin Lodge uncovered letters to spell the word "HAPPY" and won a trip to Disney World. Instead of taking the trip, the Lodges chose cash and had "a lot of fun" closer to home. Lodge said that they’ll use the cash from this most recent win to pay some bills.

"That is awesome," Lodge explained. "To not have to worry about a bill is a lot of fun."

"Winning Fever" is a $2 game with a top prize of $20,000. It is one of three Scratchers eligible to be entered in the Missouri Lottery’s "Muscle Up" second-chance promotion, where players could win one of three Dodge® Vipers®, beach vacations or $500 in cash.
