A stop at the grocery store became a lucrative adventure for a Pevely man. John Caritoni, 67, said he stopped in Schnucks Market, 5434 Southfield Center in St. Louis, on April 9 when he was in the area visiting his son. He said he saw the Lottery Scratchers tickets and on a whim, decided to buy one.
“I saw it and thought, ‘What the heck,’” he said. Caritoni bought just one $5 ticket from the “Texas Hold ‘Em Poker” game, and it turned out to be worth $100,000.
A semi-retired mechanical engineer, Caritoni said he plans to use the prize money to pay off a couple of loans and share some with his two sons.
“I’ll probably do something nice for them,” he said. He may also use some prize money to take some hunting and fishing trips in-state.
The $5 game, "Texas Hold ’Em Poker," officially began on Aug. 5, 2006.
