Republic Man Wins $20,000 Instantly

Story Photo A Republic cashier rang up $20,000 instantly when he uncovered the prize on a "$250,000 Mega Cash" Scratchers ticket from the Missouri Lottery.  Charles "Todd" Nimmo, 43, bought his ticket at Dillon’s, 1707 W. Battlefield in Springfield, before he clocked in to work on Feb. 22.  Nimmo has been a cashier at Dillon’s for 25 years.
"I was really excited," Nimmo said of discovering his win.  "It was unbelievable."
Nimmo put $20 in the Lottery ticket vending machine at the store.  He won $5 and had $11 cash with him.  He decided to play the $11 on one $10 "$250,000 Mega Cash" ticket and one $1 Scratchers ticket.  He scratched the $1 ticket first, and did not win.  He saved the best for last because he won $20,000 instantly on the "$250,000 Mega Cash" ticket.
"I started shaking," Nimmo said.  "I thought, ’This can’t be real.’"
Nimmo said he is not yet sure what he’s going to do with his prize money.  He knows he’s going to pay off a couple of bills, but he hasn’t decided how he will use the rest of the money.  He sold his motorcycle a few years ago, so he’s considering buying another one.
"$250,000 Mega Cash," a $10 game, officially began on Jan. 31, 2007.  It offers 30 top prizes of $250,000.  Thirteen of those prizes remain to be claimed.
