St. Joseph Man Wins $100,000 Raffle Prize
A St. Joseph man is starting off the new year with an extra $100,000. Tommy Turner’s 10-digit raffle number matched one of the numbers drawn in the Million-Dollar Raffle drawing on Jan. 21. Turner, 43, won one of two $100,000 prizes offered in the game. He purchased his winning ticket at American Tavern, 1001 N. Third St. in St. Joseph.
"I’m excited," Turner said when he claimed his prize on Jan. 22. "I realized I won at about 10 a.m. this morning. I didn’t believe it at first."
Turner and his wife each bought one ticket, and his ticket turned out to be the lucky one. Turner plans to use his prize money to pay bills, buy a ring for his wife and maybe buy a new truck.
In addition to Turner’s prize, one lucky player in St. Louis won the $1 million top prize and a player in Lonedell won the other $100,000 prize. Three hundred players won the third-level prize of $500.
The Million-Dollar Raffle was a Numbers Game that was a modern version of a traditional raffle. For $10, players could purchase a ticket with a 10-digit raffle number. Tickets were sold in sequential order from Nov. 12, 2007, through Jan. 19, when the game sold out. With only 250,000 tickets available for purchase, the game offered the best chance ever to win $1 million.
