Kansas City Man Wins $40,000 Powerball Prize

Story Photo A Kansas City man said he plans to make some new decisions about his business after he won $40,000 on Jan. 5 playing Powerball. Raymundo Carrete, 40, matched four of the five white-ball numbers and the Powerball number to win the third-level $10,000 prize. He played the Power Play option, which allows players, for an extra $1, to multiply their prizes up to five times. Because Carrete chose the Power Play option, and the Power Play number was four, his prize was multiplied to $40,000.
Carrete purchased his winning ticket at Red X, 2401 N.W. Platte Road in Riverside. He let the computer select his winning numbers.
Carrete, a small business owner, said he purchased the newspaper to get the winning numbers and he checked his ticket after getting home from work early the next day.
"I was very excited," Carret said. "I just prayed."
Carret said the prize money will give him time to make some decisions regarding his business and to pay some bills.
