Jefferson City Retiree Spells Out $50,000 Win

Story Photo audio icon On his way to the cabin he is building along the Gasconade River, Charles Pritchard, 61, decided to stop for some sweet rolls.   While he was shopping at the Thriftway Supermarket, 318 W. Main St. in Linn, Pritchard made another impulse buy – a couple of Missouri Lottery "Crossword" Scratchers tickets.
"I thought, well, I’ll just get me a couple of tickets.  I think the one before this one was a $5 one, $5 or $10, something like that, but this one was the Mother Lode," said Pritchard.
A retired captain from the Missouri Department of Corrections, Pritchard said he’ll use the winnings to finish work on the family river getaway.
“It’s going to be put to good use,” said Pritchard, regarding the cabin.  “I’m building it for the kids and grandkids, so they have some place to go on weekends, or what have you.  It’s very relaxing, when the work’s all done.”
Pritchard’s winning ticket was a $3 “Crossword” Scratchers ticket.  Game 651 began March 1, 2007, and ended on Nov. 19, 2007.  Players have until May 17 to claim prizes from this game.  A new version of “Crossword” began on Sept. 1, 2007, and also features a top prize of $50,000.
