Rolla Man Kicks Off New Year Winning a $10,000 Prize

Story Photo A Rolla man got a jump start on 2008 when he won $10,000 playing the Missouri Lottery Scratchers game, "Deal or No Deal." Gregory Byington, 40, said he purchased his winning Scratchers ticket on Jan. 1, when he stopped at Kroger Store, 605 W. Fourth St. in Rolla, to pick up some milk and a few other items for his family.
"I was shocked," Byington said when he claimed his prize on Jan. 2. "I had to look it over three or four times. I’m still in shock. It’s so hard to believe."
Byington, who is a nurse at Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, said he plans to use his prize money to buy a new printer for the family’s home computer and to purchase some equipment for his wife’s home art studio. He said he also is working on fixing up a 1969 GMC truck, and may use some of the prize money to do a little more with it.
"Deal or No Deal," a $5 game, officially began on Sept. 1, 2007.
