Jefferson City Co-Workers Named Lottery Team of the Month

Story Photo Congratulations to the Lottery team from "Command Web" of Jefferson City! The group was recognized as the Lottery Team of the Month for January as part of the Missouri Lottery’s 2008 Lottery Captains promotion. The promotion awards a Lottery players group with prizes and a feature at Molottery.com each month during the calendar year.
The "Command Web" team is a group of 14 co-workers who work at Command Web in Jefferson City and have played Powerball and Lotto together for 10 months. The members are: Melissa Oliver (team captain), Stacie Hammons, Chris Sanning, Jeff Seelingmann and George Shutt, all of Jefferson City; Scott Ellermann, Fulton; Dale Alexander, Walt Carlson and Wayne Kurtz, all of Holt Summit; Ben Baker, Madison; Tim Campbell, New Bloomfield; Mike Capler and Lance Homeyer, both of Owensville; and Bob Howard, Russellville.
Each member puts in $2 per week, and they play the Wednesday and Saturday Powerball and Lotto drawings. Sometimes they use Quick Pick to let the computer generate their numbers and sometimes they choose their own numbers. Oliver usually purchases the team’s tickets at various retail locations.
The "Command Web" team saves the small prizes they win. They were saving their prizes to split up for extra Christmas money, but they used it a few months ago to buy Powerball tickets during a large jackpot run. After that, they saved their prize money and bought raffle tickets for the Million-Dollar Raffle, which started on Nov. 12, with the drawing scheduled for Jan. 21.
The group keeps playing each week thanks to Oliver’s encouragement. She said that she tries to keep the team’s moral up, by thinking positive that they will win the jackpot one day.
Oliver enjoys being a team captain and has some advice for other teams who are just starting out.
"Have fun with it," Oliver said. "Being a team captain is fun. If you get tired of buying all of the tickets, ask someone in your group to buy them. They might be luckier than you. It’s always fun to switch if around and do something different."
