Vandalia Woman Keeps Winning

Story Photo audio icon Janet Turner of Vandalia is having a very good year. Following a $10,000 Powerball win in July, she matched triple 8s in Pick 3 and won $1,800 during the "Midday Pick 3 Bonus Numbers" promotion. Then, on Friday, Oct. 26, she held two winning tickets for the Midday Pick 4 drawing to win $9,125. It’s a pretty good winning streak for the avid player, but Turner says she isn’t done yet.
"I had to come over today, to Columbia, to bring my little girl, because my daughter is getting ready to have some dental surgery, so I left my cards with my mom because I knew I wouldn’t get back in time," said Turner.
A regular at Hickman’s IGA, 1555 W. Highway 54 in Vandalia, Turner says she plays the same numbers all the time. She plays her daughter’s birthday and the number she won on, the last four digits of her telephone number.
"I play other places, but Hickman’s is where I go. I’m a regular customer. They see me coming and say, ’Here comes Janet.’"
Turner says that she didn’t spend any of her previous winnings on herself, instead using the money to help her family.
"For me, the joy is helping others," says Turner. But this time, she plans to spend a little on herself.
"I want one of those big cuddly recliners, and I’m going to have one. That’s going to be my Christmas present to me."
