Arkansas Man Wins $77,000 Playing Missouri Lottery

A 46-year-old Marmaduke, Ark., man who stopped for a barbecue lunch in Kennett ended up winning a $77,000 top prize on a Missouri Lottery ticket. Kevan Vangilder said he and his mother stopped for a barbecue lunch on Sept. 19. While he was waiting for his mom to finish her meal, he decided to go across the street to Town & Country, 1012 St. Francis St. in Kennett, to buy five pounds of sugar. Before leaving the store, he bought one $5 Scratchers ticket and one $2 Scratchers ticket. He played the tickets when he got home, and the $5 ticket from the "Ruby Red 7’s" game turned out to be worth the top prize of $77,000.
"It was almost unreal," he said, describing his win. "I called my mom and told her to come back (to his house), that I’ve got some good news."
Vangilder, who does maintenance work for a local farm, said he plans to use his prize money to buy a dump truck.
"I’ll probably get my wife a new vehicle, too," he said.
"Ruby Red 7’s," a $5 game, officially began Sept. 14, 2006.
