Arnold Man Uncovers Top Scratchers Prize

Story Photo A penny found in a parking lot is now a lucky penny for an Arnold man, who used that penny to scratch off a Missouri Lottery’s Scratchers ticket worth $77,000. Gordon Guffey Jr. said he stopped by Schnucks Market, 3900 Vogel Road in Arnold, on Sept. 19 to buy a few Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets. On his way into the store, he found a penny in the parking lot, and later, he used that penny to scratch off the winning "Lucky 7’s" Scratchers ticket.
Guffey, a home inspector, said he’s won a few prizes on Scratchers tickets before, but nothing could prepare him for winning $77,000.
"I scratched off a few of the prizes (on the "Lucky 7’s" ticket), and they just kept coming," Guffey said. "I had to put the ticket and the penny down for about five minutes before I could finish scratching it off. I knew it was something big."
Guffey, 38, said he wasn’t sure how he planned to spend his prize money, but he did plan to pay some bills and "maybe have a good time."
"Lucky 7’s," a $5 Scratchers game, officially began on July 14.
