Springfield Man Wins $50,000 Playing 'Crossword'

Story Photo A Springfield man said he thinks his heart skipped a few beats after he found out that he won a $50,000 prize on a Missouri Lottery "Crossword" Scratchers ticket. James Smith, 42, said he thought he won $5,000 on Sept. 14 when he went to cash the ticket in at the Missouri Lottery office in Springfield, but when the office staff told him he actually won $50,000, he said he couldn’t believe it.
"I really do think my heart skipped a few beats," Smith said.
Smith, who works for AMCON Distributors in Springfield, said he plans to put his prize money into the bank for now and maybe buy a few things for his bicycle.
Smith purchased his winning ticket at Jiffy Mart, 2557 E. Cherry in Springfield.
"Crossword," a $3 ticket, officially began on Sept. 1.
