Columbia Man Uncovers $10,000

Story Photo A retired Columbia man took a break from his morning errands and scratched his way to $10,000. Joe Roark, 66, had just dropped his wife off at the mall for her morning walk when he stopped in Moser’s Price Chopper, 705 Business Loop 70 W. in Columbia, and purchased $40 worth of Scratchers tickets. While scratching them at the store, he was pleased to uncover the winning numbers for the third prize in the "$250,000 Mega Cash" game, $10,000. Anxious to collect his prize, he took his wife home, dropped off the dog at the veterinarian and then hurried to Jefferson City to claim his winning ticket.
Roark plans to bank most of the money in preparation for taxes and Christmas, but he might spend a little on "one of those flat TVs."
Married to his wife, Carol, for 44 years, Roark quickly added, "My wife’s birthday is coming up."
"$250,000 Mega Cash" is a $10 ticket that began on Jan. 31, 2007, and offers a top prize of $250,000
