Waynesville Man Uncovers $5,000 Prize

Story Photo Bill Roberts, Waynesville, is planning to make some repairs after winning $5,000 instantly on a "Blazin’ Hot Bucks" Scratchers ticket from the Missouri Lottery. Roberts, 63, bought his winning ticket at All Star Express, 906 Missouri Ave. in St. Robert, on Sept. 6.
Roberts, a propane technician for Goodrich Gas Co. in St. Roberts for nearly 20 years, said he went to All Star Express to get a slice of pizza for lunch. He also bought two "Blazin’ Hot Bucks" Scratchers tickets and scratched them off while he was eating lunch. The first ticket he scratched was a winner worth $10, and the second ticket was the big winner worth $5,000.
"I nearly choked when I saw it," Roberts said.
Roberts said the first thing he’s going to do with his prize is to buy new eyeglasses for himself and his wife. He also plans to get new tires for his wife’s car, fix his bulldozer and finish repairing the roof on his back porch.
"Blazin’ Hot Bucks," a $5 game, officially began on March 1.
