High Ridge Man Spells Out a $50,000 Lottery Prize

Douglas Schmieder, High Ridge, was waiting in the drive-through line at a fast food restaurant on June 26 when he scratched off the two Missouri Lottery "Crossword" Scratchers tickets he had just purchased at High Ridge BP, 2909 High Ridge Blvd. in High Ridge. The first ticket turned out to be worth $50,000 when he uncovered the game’s top prize.
Schmieder, 52, was in disbelief and had his wife and daughter double-check his ticket.
"You always have your doubts," Schmieder said. "We didn’t want to think about it for sure until we turned it (the ticket) in."
Schmieder and his wife, Pam, plan to use his prize money for home remodeling.
The $3 game, "Crossword," officially began on March 1.
