Jefferson City Woman Spells 'Cash'

Story Photo A Jefferson City woman uncovered $5,000 on her favorite afternoon past time, playing a "Crossword" Scratchers ticket from the Missouri Lottery. Carla Stockman, 46, stopped off at Convenient Food Mart on Eastland Drive (65101) after a long day of work at Capitol Region Medical Center. She frequently picks up a Crossword Scratchers ticket to play at home later. "I like playing crossword puzzles and trying to win money," said the medical secretary. Her routine paid off on July 2, when the ticket she was playing turned out to be worth $5,000. She took it to the nearby grocery store because she couldn’t believe her eyes. "I about died right there on the spot," she said. Stockman plans on using the money to pay down some recent loans, including one for a new vehicle, but promises to spend a little on "fun." "Crossword" is a $3 game that has a top prize of $50,000. The game began on March 1, 2007, and has five top prizes remaining.
