Webb City Woman Finds Luck in the Number Seven, Wins $27,777

Story Photo Mary Carter of Webb City isn’t sure what it is about the number seven, but it has proved to be lucky for her. Her most recent luck was when she won $27,777 playing the Missouri Lottery game, "Sizzlin’ 7’s." She purchased her winning ticket at Smoke Shop Annex II, 24905 Demott Drive in Webb City, on May 25, the same day her second great-grandchild was born. Carter, 67, said she won $777 seven years ago playing a different Scratchers game that also had the number seven in the game name. She also has seven grandchildren. "It seems to go in sevens," Carter said. "I never thought about it much, but I guess seven is my lucky number." Carter said she "about fainted" when she scratched off the ticket. "It’s still so hard to believe," she said when she claimed her prize. Carter said she plans to put most of the money in a money market account and maybe use some of it to take a trip to Branson later this summer. The $2 "Sizzlin’ 7’s" game officially went on sale on Dec. 23, 2006.
