Lamar Nurse Snags $10,000 Playing Powerball

Story Photo A Lamar nurse is $10,000 richer after matching four of five white-ball numbers and the Powerball number in the May 16 Powerball drawing. Rebecca Lear, 34, bought $5 worth of Powerball plays on the day of the drawing at Snak Atak, 500 W. 12th St. in Lamar. She checked her ticket on a Check-A-Ticket machine two days later and discovered she had won.
"I about freaked out," Lear said. "I didn’t believe it."
Lear said she and her fiancé are thinking about using some of her prize money for home improvements or to purchase a used truck.
"We’re not material people," Lear said.
The third-level Powerball prize increased from $5,000 to $10,000 in August 2005, when the game was redesigned for the fourth time since it started in April 1992.
