Joplin Couple Win $30,000 Lottery Prize

Story Photo A Joplin couple had a memorable Mother’s Day when they uncovered the top prize of $30,000 on the Missouri Lottery’s Scratchers game "Triple Dough."
Tom Swearengin, 74, stopped at Lacy’s, 901 N. Florida in Joplin, on May 13 to buy gas and Scratchers tickets. He bought three $2 Scratchers tickets, and one of them ended up being worth $30,000. He split the prize with his wife, Floretta Swearengin, 73.
The clerk at Lacy’s didn’t believe him when he told her he had won because he’s always teasing her.
"When she scanned the ticket, she got more excited than me," Swearengin said.
The $2 "Triple Dough" game officially began on Dec. 6, 2006.
