Marshfield Woman Wins $10,000 Lottery Prize

Story Photo Janice Smikle, Marshfield, is $10,000 richer after winning on the Missouri Lottery Scratchers game "$100,000 Cash Spectacular." Smikle bought her winning ticket on May 9 at Main Street Convenience, 412 E. Main St. in Fordland.
She bought one $2 Scratchers ticket and one $10 Scratchers ticket, and both were winners. She scratched the $2 ticket first, and she was excited to win $4. She saved the $10 to scratch last.
"I always scratch the prize amount first," Smikle said. "Everyone says that’s not the right way to do it. Every (prize) was $500. Then, I scratched the numbers at the top and the numbers below. I thought, ’I know I’ve won because every one of these is $500.’"
When she scratched her ticket, Smikle was waiting in the car while her sister was in Wal-Mart. After her sister finished, they took the ticket to the nearest Lottery retail location to have the ticket checked.
"We were in seventh heaven all the way to Fordland," Smikle said. "Everyone was ecstatic for me."
Smikle plans to pay off her car and some other bills. She said she will use whatever is left to paint and decorate her house.
The "$100 Million Cash Spectacular" game, which officially started on Sept. 10, 2005, has one of the highest payouts and offers more than $102.5 million in cash prizes, including 10 top prizes of $1 million. More than 75.14 percent of the $10 game’s sales will be returned to players as prizes.
