Monett Man Wins $50,000 Prize Instantly

Story Photo Wedding plans are underway for a Monett man and his fiancée after he won $50,000 playing the Missouri Lottery’s Scratchers game "Crossword." Michael Rust, 39, said he and his fiancee, Kashina, had been saving to get married and to buy a house, but now wedding plans are in full swing after he purchased his winning ticket on April 4.
"We’ll probably get married this summer," Rust said. "This really helps out a lot. We’ll probably start looking for a house, too."
Rust, a roofer, said he stopped at Pack N Go, 310 S. Kyler in Monett, to buy two Scratchers tickets - one "Crossword" ticket and one "Bingo" ticket - and a soda. He took the tickets home to scratch.
"I thought I won $500, then $5,000," he said. "Kashina said, ’It’s $50,000!’ I couldn’t believe it."
The $3 "Crossword" game officially started March 1.
