St. Louis Man Planning Vacation After Winning $50,000 Instantly

A St. Louis (63136)* man is making plans to travel to the Cayman Islands for a vacation after he won $50,000 playing the Missouri Lottery’s Scratchers game "Crossword." Mehdi Boyd, 25, purchased his winning ticket at Parker BP, 12095 Benham Road in St. Louis, on March 20 when he stopped to buy a drink.
"I don’t even do crossword puzzles, so I don’t really know why I decided to buy that ticket," Boyd said.
Boyd said after purchasing the $3 ticket, he went over to his girlfriend’s house where he scratched it.
"After I saw it, I couldn’t believe it. My girlfriend kept saying, ’We?re in the money.’ But I said, ’No, I’m in the money,’" he said with a laugh.
Boyd, who works in environmental construction, said he has always wanted to take a vacation to the Cayman Islands, so he hopes to do that with his winnings. He said he would also like to buy a few things for himself, his girlfriend and his two children.
The $3 "Crossword" game officially started Aug. 5, 2006.
