Lamar Man Wins $20,000 On Ticket Bought In Hermann

Story Photo audio icon An 18-year-old man from Lamar netted $20,000 after taking a trip to Hermann with his brother. Jonathan "Jon" Bishop said he and his older brother, Jared, took a road trip to Hermann last week. While there, they stopped at Hermann Fuel Mart, 115 B Highway 19 in Hermann, and Bishop purchased one $10 ticket from the "$100 Million Cash Spectacular" Scratchers game.
"I usually don’t buy $10 tickets," he said. "But I had enough (money), so I bought one."
Bishop scratched the latex off the ticket on his way back to Lamar, and he couldn’t believe what he saw.
"To be honest, I’m still shocked," said Bishop, who is a senior at Lamar High School.
Bishop said he plans to use his prize money for his upcoming college costs. He plans to get a degree in criminal justice. He also plans to buy a laptop computer for college, a new set of golf clubs and take his family on a vacation.
"Mom and Dad did enough for me," he said. "It’ll be nice to do something for them.
"My parents used to live in Tulsa, and they like going back, so we’ll probably go down to Tulsa," he added.
"$100 Million Cash Spectacular" is a $10 Scratchers game that began Sept. 10, 2005.
