Dixon Man Wins $5,000 Prize Instantly
A Dixon man and his family will be doing a lot more camping this summer after he won $5,000 playing the Missouri Lottery’s Scratchers game "Crossword." Terry Conner, 33, said he plans to buy a camper for his family with the prize money he won on March 7.
Conner said he stopped at All Star Express, 906 Missouri Ave. in St. Robert, to by a few Scratchers tickets. He bought two Scratchers tickets, and the clerk inadvertently gave Conner back a buffalo nickel. Conner said he left the store and didn’t notice the buffalo nickel until he got his vehicle. He used that nickel to scratch his ticket.
"I thought it was $500, so I took it back in and had the clerk scan it," Conner said. "The clerk said, ’It’s not worth $500. It’s worth $5,000.’ I couldn’t believe it."
Conner, who works as a training support technician for an independent contractor at Ft. Leonard Wood, said he had to call his wife, Rachael, two times before she would believe him.
"This is a win for the family," he said.
In addition to buying a camper, Conner said he plans to pay off a few small bills.
The $3 "Crossword" game officially started March 1.
