St. Louis Woman To Take $60,000 Cash in Pick 3 Promotion

Story Photo A St. Louis woman discovered on March 4 that one of her raffle tickets held the winning top-prize number in the Missouri Lottery’s Pick 3 "Bonus Bucks Raffle" promotion. As the grand-prize winner, Sheila Young, 54, of St. Louis (63136*) can choose to take a 2007 Hummer H2 or its cash value of $60,000, taxes paid. Young said she has decided to take the cash. "I don’t want the Hummer," she said when she claimed her prize at the Lottery’s St. Louis office on March 5. "I might buy another car." In addition to a car, Young said she plans to save some of the prize money for her two grandchildren. She also plans to pay bills and invest some money. Her husband, Louis, would like to buy a laptop computer. "I’m still stunned," said Young, who is employed as a nurse’s assistant for Lutheran Senior Service in Webster Groves. Young received her winning raffle ticket with a Pick 3 purchase she made at Merello Convenience, 10901 Old Halls Ferry in St. Louis. From Feb. 1 through March 1, a numbered raffle ticket was generated after every $3 or greater Pick 3 single-ticket purchase for that day’s draw. Once a week during the four-week promotion, a drawing was held with the raffle numbers issued that week. In each drawing, the Lottery awarded 10 prizes of $1,000 cash. At the final drawing on March 2, one entry was drawn from among all the entries received for the promotion to be the grand-prize winner. Winning raffle numbers from each drawing can be found on the Missouri Lottery’s Web site and at Missouri Lottery retail locations.
