HOUSTONIA MAN WINS $25,000 TAX PAID

A 55-year-old Houstonia man can now go buy himself a new pickup truck after his five SHOW ME 5 numbers matched all five drawn last night to win the $25,000 tax-paid* top prize. Edwin "Ed" Nelson said he just bought his wife, Roberta, a car last week, but he would like to get a new truck for himself. He also plans to use the money to pay bills and maybe take a trip to North Carolina to see some friends. Nelson, who is retired from the Marine Corps, purchased his winning ticket at Break Time, 100 W. 40 Highway in Sweet Springs. He’s been playing those numbers - 2, 7, 14, 21 and 28 - since the game began. Four other tickets purchased for last night’s drawing matched all five numbers to win $25,000 tax paid. To date, 772 tickets worth $25,000 tax paid have been sold since the game began in November 1994. * Twenty-eight percent federal and 4 percent state taxes are withheld from the total prize amount of $36,764.70 to provide $25,000 cash at the time of redemption. Depending on personal income, winners may owe additional taxes for the prize, or they may receive a refund.
