Lottery Makes Record Proceeds Transfer
The Missouri Lottery today transferred a record $27.7 million to the Lottery Proceeds Fund for public education. The transfer surpasses the prior monthly proceeds record of $26.7 million set on March 17, 2006. The February transfer of $27,781,382 is based on January ticket sales, and it brings the total Lottery proceeds for fiscal year 2007 to more than $172 million.
"The record proceeds are a result of high Scratchers sales, last month’s high Powerball jackpot and Missouri’s record jackpot win," said Larry Jansen, executive director for the Missouri Lottery. "We introduced our third ’mega’ Scratchers game at the end of January, and as a result, had our highest week of sales for $10 Scratchers tickets ever and our highest January Scratchers sales ever."
Jansen noted that the Lottery sold more than $4.2 million in $10 Scratchers ticket during the last week in January. Overall, January Scratchers sales are up more than 18 percent in 2007 compared with January 2006.
To date, the Missouri Lottery has generated more than $2.8 billion in proceeds for the state, including education, since ticket sales began in January 1986.
