Springfield Man Finds $77,000 Prize Instantly

Story Photo audio icon A stop for coffee and a donut brought a $77,000 windfall to one Springfield man. Carlos Jones, 49, said he went to Casey’s, 949 S. Grant Ave. in Springfield, on Jan. 19 for the two breakfast items. While there, he bought some Missouri Lottery tickets. The three final tickets he bought turned out to be the lucky ones; Jones ended up uncovering a $77,000 top prize on a "Ruby Red 7s" ticket and a $10 prize on another ticket.
"I was just getting ready to leave and I said, ’Hey, give me three of those Ruby Red 7’s,’" said Jones. "And it was weird because even after the $77,000 one - the next one after that - it was a winner. It was a $10 winner. I gave that to my brother, and he was all happy."
Jones said he plans to share his good fortune with his mother, who is in "bad health."
"Before I do anything, I am going to spend it on my mom," he said.
"Ruby Red 7’s" is a $5 game that officially began on Sept. 14, 2006.
