Independence Woman Uncovers Top Prize

Patricia Schantz, Independence, is ringing in the new year with a top prize from the Missouri Lottery. Schantz, 61, stopped at QuikTrip, 4024 S. Noland Road in Independence, on Dec. 28, 2006. She bought one $5 "Ruby Red 7’s" Scratchers ticket and uncovered the top prize of $77,000.
"I scratched the first one, and it said $10,000," Schantz said. "I thought ’That’s not right.’ Then the next one said $10,000, too. I couldn’t believe it."
With another Lottery win in the past few days, Schantz thinks seven is a lucky number for her.
"I won $7 from the Powerball drawing on Christmas Eve," Schantz said. "Seven has got to be my lucky number."
Schantz has had three surgeries in the last six months and needs one more, so she plans to use some of her prize money for medical expenses. She hopes to have some fun with her prize, as well.
"I would love to take a cruise," Schantz said. "I’d also like to go to Texas to see my son. I didn’t get to see him at Christmas."
The $5 Scratchers game "Ruby Red 7’s" officially began on Sept. 14, 2006.
