Cape Girardeau Mechanic Uncovers $50,000 Playing Crossword

A Cape Girardeau mechanic who bought one Missouri Lottery "Crossword" Scratchers ticket uncovered a $50,000 top prize on Dec. 26. Eddie Claar, 60, said he stopped at U Kwick Stop, 1700 Broadway St. in Cape Girardeau, to buy cigarettes, and he also decided to buy one ticket.
"We thought it (prize) was only $5,000," he said, when he redeemed his ticket at a Lottery office on Dec. 28.
After realizing it was really worth $50,000, Claar and his wife, Sharon, decided they would use the prize money to pay their house off and pay bills.
"I wouldn’t mind a trip to Branson," he added.
The $3 "Crossword" game officially began on Aug. 5, 2006.
