Oak Grove Man Captures Seat At World Poker TourŪ Tournament

audio icon A second big Missouri Lottery prize has been sold at a Kansas City retail location. Chris Kavadas, 54, was selected as the top-prize winner in the Lottery’s second "Texas Hold ’Em™ Poker" promotion drawing on Dec. 13. He purchased his winning ticket at Happy Food Center, 4019 E. 31st St. in Kansas City, the same store where Eugene Shelton of Kansas City purchased a "$100 Million Cash Spectacular" Scratchers ticket worth $1 million on Nov. 20. Kavadas is the general manager for the store.
As the top-prize winner in the promotion drawing, Kavadas can choose between a seat at a table in a World Poker Tour® tournament of his choice located in the United States or the cash value of the trip package, which is $15,011.
"At this point, I think it’ll probably be the poker," he told Lottery officials when he learned of his top-prize win. "I think it would be great. You know, I play every so often on the Internet trying to win seats to that thing."
The trip prize includes one entry into a World Poker Tour tournament event, including a maximum of a $10,000 "buy-in," round-trip airfare and transfers for two, six night’s hotel accommodations, $1,000 spending cash and seats to watch the final table of that World Poker Tour tournament. The Lottery will also pay standard state and federal withholding taxes on the trip packages.
The winner of the first "Texas Hold ’Em™ Poker" promotion drawing was Randy Altiser of Lake Tapawingo. He and a friend are planning to travel to Reno in March to participate in a World Poker Tour tournament.
Kavadas’ entry was drawn from among more than 56,000 entries submitted for the second drawing. He said he submitted approximately 15 entries to the promotion through the Lottery’s Web site.
In addition to the top prize "Ultimate Poker Experience," the Lottery drew 100 entries to win a merchandise package consisting of a quad-folding poker game table top, a wheeling cooler bag, a 300-chip poker set, a fleece throw, sunglasses, tumblers and a clock. Go to molottery.com for a complete list of winners.
The Missouri Lottery’s $5 "Texas Hold ’Em™ Poker" game, which started Aug 5, offers cash prizes up to $100,000 instantly. Players can also enter their non-winning tickets into one of three remaining drawings. In each drawing, one name will be drawn to win a seat at a World Poker Tour® tournament of the winner’s choice in the United States or 100 official merchandise packages.
The third drawing deadline and drawing date will be announced at a later date via news release and on the Lottery’s Web site. Until a deadline is announced, players can send one "Texas Hold ’Em™ Poker" ticket as an entry to:
