Father, Son to Share $20,000 Prize

Story Photo A Montgomery County father and son are sharing a $20,000 prize they won on a Missouri Lottery "$100 Million Cash Spectacular" Scratchers ticket they bought in New Florence. Rick Bethel, 34, said he saw his dad, Carl Bethel, 64, at Junction Fuel and Grocery, 447 Booneslick Road in New Florence, on Dec. 15, so he stopped in. His dad had bought some Lottery tickets, so Rick bought some, too. The seventh ticket the pair purchased turned out to be worth $20,000.
"I thought he was going to pass out," said Carl Bethel of New Florence.
A retired truck driver, Carl Bethel isn’t sure what he will do with his share of the prize money.
Rick Bethel, Montgomery City, said he and his wife plan to pay bills.
"It’ll help go toward Christmas stuff, too," said Bethel, who is also a truck driver.
The "$100 Million Cash Spectacular" game, which officially started on Sept. 10, 2005, has the one of the highest payouts and offers more than $102.5 million in cash prizes, including 10 top prizes of $1 million. More than 75.14 percent of the $10 game’s sales will be returned to players as prizes.
