Leslie Woman Uncovers $5,000 Prize, Gives Prize to Sons
A Leslie woman is keeping her promise to her twin 14-year-old sons after she won $5,000 playing the Missouri Lottery’s "Money Game" Scratchers ticket. Roberta Scego, 43, purchased her winning ticket on Nov. 25 at Heartland Discount Pharmacy, 707 Highway 50 W. in Union.
"I’m going to give (the prize money) to my boys - just because," Scego told Lottery officials when she claimed her prize on Dec. 5. "I always told them anything I would win on the Lottery, I would give to them. I can’t go back on my promise on that."
Scego said she had gone to Heartland Discount Pharmacy to pick up a prescription when she purchased a $1 "Money Game" ticket. Since she was driving, she handed the ticket to her husband, David, to scratch.
"We couldn’t believe it," Scego said. "We rolled up the windows to make sure it didn’t blow out."
Scego said her sons plan to save the prize money to buy a car when they turn 16. She also said she told them that they need to take her out to dinner, too.
The "Money Game" officially began on Sept. 14.
