Springfield Woman Wins $50,000 Tax Paid
A Springfield woman is $50,000* richer after her Missouri Lottery SHOW ME 5 Paydown ticket matched all five numbers drawn in the Nov. 27 evening drawing. Judith "Jaye" Hofbauer, 73, said she already has her Christmas shopping done, so she plans to use the winnings to pay bills and put the rest into savings.
"I haven’t thought that far ahead," Hofbauer said when she claimed her prize on Nov. 28.
Hoftbauer, who works in medical marketing, let the computer select her five winning numbers - 5, 15, 25, 36 and 37 - on a ticket she bought at Fastrip Store, 3109 W. Sunshine in Springfield.
To date, 113 players have matched all five numbers drawn to win $50,000 tax paid in SHOW ME 5 Paydown since it began Nov. 6, 2000.
* The Missouri Lottery will pay 25 percent federal and 4 percent state withholding taxes for the top prize based on its value. Depending on personal income, winners may owe additional taxes for the prize, or they may be entitled to a refund. Total value of the top prize is $70,422.55. After withholding, winners will receive $50,000. If more than 14 players match the five winning numbers in a single drawing, $1 million will be divided equally among the number of winning tickets.
