St. Joseph Woman Picks Up $30,000 While Buying Groceries

Story Photo A St. Joseph woman who stopped for groceries is now $30,000 richer. Rose Ridens, 70, said she uncovered the top prize in the Missouri Lottery’s "Nifty $50" Scratchers game on Nov. 19, while her husband, Claude, loaded the car with the groceries. The couple was shopping at Hy-Vee, 201 N. Belt Highway in St. Joseph. "I couldn’t believe it when I saw it," said Ridens, who is employed at Dillards, located in the East Hills Mall in St. Joseph. Ridens said she will probably give some of her prize winnings to her only son. She said she also planned to buy "a little bit more" for her four great-grandchildren this Christmas. "Nifty $50," a $2 Scratchers game, officially began on July 1.
