Columbia Woman Wins $10,000 Scratchers Prize

Story Photo A customer service representative with a Columbia bank just added $10,000 to her personal account after she won the prize playing one of the newest Missouri Lottery Scratchers games "Merry Money." Mary Ann Mize, 62, purchased her winning ticket Oct. 25 at Patricia’s Foods, 900 Keene St. in Columbia. Mize said she had gone to Patricia’s Foods to purchase a gift when she passed by the store’s Instant Ticket Vending Machine and saw the new "Merry Money" ticket. "I saw the new ticket and thought I would give it a try," Mize said. "I was going to a meeting, so I took the ticket with me." Mize said she arrived a little early for her meeting, so she sat in her car in the parking lot and scratched off her ticket. She said she couldn?t believe it when she saw she won $10,000. She said she called her husband, Gene. "He said ’Sit on the purse,’" Mize said about her husband’s reaction to the win. Mize said she plans to use her winnings to buy a commercial-grade mixer to help make homemade bread. "My son and I love to make homemade bread," Mize said. "We were saving money to buy a mixer. Now we don’t have to wait." In addition to buying a mixer, Mize said she and her husband plan to put the rest of their winnings in the bank. "Merry Money," a $5 game, officially starts Oct. 28.
