Lake Tapawingo Man Wins Seat At World Poker TourŪ Tournament

Story Photo audio icon A Lake Tapawingo man’s name was drawn as the unofficial top-prize winner in the first of three drawings in the Missouri Lottery’s "Texas Hold ’Em Poker™" promotion. Randall "Randy" Altiser’s entry was drawn on Oct. 11, and when Altiser provides the Lottery with the actual ticket he used to enter the promotion via the Web site, he will be named the official winner. Altiser has 14 days from the announcement that his ticket was the winner, which in this case is 5 pm. Oct. 27, to submit that ticket. When he does, he will get the chance to choose between a seat at a table in a World Poker Tour® tournament at his choice located in the United States or the cash value of the trip package, which is $15,011.
"The first client I go to every day, I always stop and I buy two of the tickets, and we scratch the tickets every morning to see how the day is going to go," said Altiser, who is a self-employed accountant. "I always made fun saying, ’We’re going to win the ticket to the final table, so we don’t care if we win every day or not.’"
Altiser said he was anxious to call his client, Pete, to tell him the good news.
"Trust me, the next phone call I make is going to be to him," said Altiser. "I’m sure he is going to absolutely be floored."
Altiser purchased the winning entry ticket at another client’s, Lakeside Foodmart, 280 N.W. Woodschapel Drive in Blue Springs.
The trip prize includes one entry into a World Poker Tour tournament event, including a maximum of $10,000 "buy-in," round-trip airfare and transfers for two, six night’s hotel accommodations, $1,000 spending cash and seats to watch the final table of that World Poker Tour tournament. The Lottery will also pay standard state and federal withholding taxes on the trip packages.
Altiser’s entry was drawn from among more than 66,000 entries submitted for the first drawing.
"I don’t know if I play enough (poker) to sit at one of those tables, but I’ll sure be practicing between now and the time," he said.
In addition to the top prize "Ultimate Poker Experience," the Lottery drew 100 entries to win a merchandise package consisting of a quad-folding poker game table top, a wheeling cooler bag, a 300-chip poker set, a fleece throw, sunglasses, tumblers and a clock. Go to molottery.com for a complete list of winners.
The Missouri Lottery’s $5 "Texas Hold ’Em Poker™" game, which started Aug 5, offers cash prizes up to $100,000 instantly. Players can also enter their non-winning tickets into two of three remaining drawings. In each drawing, one name will be drawn to win a seat at a World Poker Tour® tournament of the winner’s choice in the United States or 100 official merchandise packages.
The second drawing deadline is Dec. 8, and the drawing will be held Dec. 13. The third drawing deadline and date will be announced at a later date via news release and on the Lottery’s Web site.
