Washington Artist Uncovers $100,000
A 43-year-old Washington glass artist can travel this autumn after she uncovered a $100,000 prize instantly on a Missouri Lottery "Harley-Davidson®" Scratchers ticket. Katherine Walter said she bought the winning ticket on Sept. 16 when she stopped to cash a check at Alcorn Washington Food Mart, 500 E. Fifth St. in Washington, where she works as a cashier on the weekends.
"I only scratched it to $20,000 until this morning," said Walter, when she claimed her prize on Sept. 18. "It’s a good thing I didn’t know it was really worth $100,000, because I wouldn’t have made it this weekend."
Walter said she plans to use the prize money to pay bills and save for retirement. She also plans to splurge on a new purse, one that "costs more than $25."
"Christmas is coming up, too," said Walter. "I’m sure Christmas shopping will be fun."
Walter and her husband, Roger, may also take a trip to either the Redwood Forest or San Francisco.
The "Harley-Davidson®" Scratchers game and the promotion officially started May 27. By buying a $5 "Harley-Davidson" ticket, Lottery players have a chance to instantly win up to $100,000 in cash or one of 10 2006 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy vivid black motorcycles plus $250 cash and a $250 Genuine Harley-Davidson Merchandise in-store credit.
