Three Players Win Large Lottery Prizes At State Fair
Three fairgoers at this year’s State Fair
- including a brother and a sister - went home with significant Lottery prizes. Harold Dunn of Kansas City, Kan., won an outdoor grill island package valued at approximately $7,042 including taxes. John "J.R." Hicks III of Sedalia won a vacation package to a hunting/fishing resort plus $500 cash worth approximately $4,930 including taxes, and his sister, Shelley Hicks of Sedalia, won one year’s worth of gasoline, valued at approximately $4,225 including taxes.
Dunn’s outdoor grill prize includes a grill island, an outdoor patio heater, a complete island cover made of TyvekŪ and $1,000 cash to fill his freezer during barbecue season.
Shelley Hicks’ name was drawn to win a year’s worth of gasoline, and she called her brother J.R. right away to tell him the good news.
"I called J.R. and as soon as he answered the phone he said, ’You won!’ And I said, ’Yep, I won the gas - $3,000! And while I’m talking to him on the phone, they were doing the drawing for the fishing and hunting trip. In the background, they said, ’John Hicks the third.’ And he said, ’Oh, I just heard my name.’ I said, ’J.R., you just won the hunting and fishing trip.’ It was pretty neat."
Players could enter non-winning tickets purchased at the fair into their choice of three drawings for a chance to win. In addition to the large prizes, hundreds of other fairgoers won free tickets, T-shirts and other prizes.
Every day, 30 winners were drawn from three barrels and each winner received $100 worth of Scratchers, for a total of 330 Scratchers winners and $33,000 worth of Scratchers tickets awarded during the 11-day fair, which ran from Aug. 10 -20. The 30 daily winners were then entered into the grand-prize drawings for the three large prizes.
