Sugar Creek Printer Wins $200,000 Playing Powerball

Story Photo A printing pressman from Sugar Creek is $200,000 richer after he matched all five white-ball numbers in the Aug. 5 Powerball drawing. Hugo Hofmann, 47, said he plans to use the windfall to fix up his home and buy a new motorcycle.
"I’ll put the rest in the bank as a safety cushion," he said.
Hofmann purchased his winning ticket at QuikTrip, 11201 E. Truman Road in Independence. He let the computer pick the five lucky numbers. They were: 2, 3, 9, 48 and 50.
The second-level prize increased from $100,000 to $200,000 when Powerball underwent a game redesign that took effect on Aug. 28, 2005. The game changes were made to create larger and faster growing jackpots. Since the game’s redesign, 32 winning $200,000 Powerball tickets have been sold in Missouri.
