St. Peters Woman Cooks Up Top Prize

Hazel Bristow, St. Peters, needed flour so she could cook breakfast for her friends on the morning of July 24. She went to Schnucks, 6083 Mid Rivers Mall Dr. in St. Charles, to get the flour. On her way out, she decided to buy a Missouri Lottery "$100,000 Jackpot" Scratchers ticket from the ticket vending machine. She scratched the ticket at home with her friends and uncovered a $100,000 top prize.
"All of us kind of freaked," Bristow said. "We thought, ’Is this right?’"
Bristow, 49, called the Missouri Lottery headquarters to be sure the St. Louis office was open. While she was on the phone, Lottery officials verified that she had a winning ticket.
"I feel like I’m going to wake up and it won’t be real, but now it’s been verified twice," Bristow said after claiming her prize at the St. Louis Lottery office on July 24.
Bristow plans to use her prize to pay off her car and a couple of other bills. She also plans to share some of the prize with her siblings.
"I don’t make that much in a year," said Bristow, a nurse at a private psychiatric hospital in St. Peters. "I’ll be much better off."
"$100,000 Jackpot," a $5 Scratchers game, officially began on July 1.
